Rooftop spaces offer an incredible area for taking a break from the office. Fresh air is beneficial for wellness and recharging, allowing employees to return back to work re-focused. Additionally, rooftops create a space to host corporate events and entertain clients while offering beautiful views. It was important for Mercedes – Benz to have a custom and functional covered space reflecting the modern design of the brand. They wanted ‘the best or nothing.’
Skanska, a leading development and construction group, was contracted for the project and specifically looked for a bolt-together trellis solution for a rooftop pavilion based on their drawings. Their original design used trellis “modules” with a series of fins to create shade. CEAS+ proposed an alternative idea using individual latilla.
A design for column “boots” which could be installed below the roof pavers served as mounting locations for the columns. The boots were fabricated locally and installed quickly to allow roofing and paver installation to continue.
A prefabricated, fully engineered structure allowed for minimal disruption to the site with a fast and safe installation. No painting, welding, or fabrication on top of the building was required.
The 45′ x 25′ trellis was designed by Gensler and was engineered and fabricated by CEAS+. The trellis features internally wired uplights and the frame was factory powder coated in a custom color ‘Mercedes-Benz Iridium Silver’. Latilla fins were specifically designed to shade employees and visitors from the sun, allowing them to enjoy some of the best views in Sandy Springs, GA.
